The upgrade of Widgets largely follows the same pattern as the procedure for upgrading unit types. See “Unit types” .
Before going through with an upgrade, please read through the Release Notes document to see if there are any special considerations regarding widgets.
If you want new unit types to be uploaded automatically to Orchestra after an upgrade, you can either select that option in the wizard or, if you run the silent installer, set the parameter widgets.update = true.
If you forget to set Orchestra to automatically import widgets before an upgrade, or if you for example want to add third party widgets, you can always copy widget files to conf/defaultwidgets/import at any point. These will be imported to Orchestra when Orchestra is restarted.
Normally, the widget files in the import folder will be deleted after the files have been imported to Orchestra. However, if the copy fails, the files will not be deleted.
You can also add widgets manually from the System Administration application. In this case, the widgets will be imported directly (no restart needed).
Follow these steps:
1. Go to the System Administration application with system admin rights and select the Widgets tab.
2. Click the Browse button and browse for the wanted new widget. After a central upgrade, the new widget files are located in the following directory:
<Orchestra install dir>/conf/defaultwidgets/R7.
3. Click Upload to add it your list of uploaded widgets.
4. Make sure that all the surfaces that were using the old widget are correctly configured, so that the correct version of the widget is used and that new attributes, if any, are set correctly.
